I know it's time to go home. And here are the signs :
- I am excessively browsing the web drooling over ethnic clothes - sarees, salwars, potlis, batuas (on a side note : Geez! what's up with Indian fashion these days - styles change faster than the seasons? When I was a teenager, a salwar kameez was just that salwar and kameez! Thank God I didn't have to battle my mom over chudidar pants, patiala bottoms, punjabi suits, anarkali tops and all else...not that we did not battle anyway! ) Now, coming back to my excessive desire to shop for Indian clothes - when I couldn't bear the shopping itch anymore, I went and bought myself an Anarkali style salwar suit at the local Indian boutique but mind you one salwar suit doesn't really count!!
- I am frequenting stores like Pier -1, World Market more than I usually do - just to look at stuff with paisley motifs, jewel tones and such because they remind me of home.
- I am listening to Chan ke Mohalla (from the movie Action Replayy) on loop, watched the dance video too on you tube (a few times) and have even decided to learn a couple of Aishwarya Rai's dance steps. Groovy dance by the way!
- I call my mom up just for recipes. Sometimes, at odd hours - because I want to eat something very specific and make it just the way mom does!
- And when it snowed dogs and cats last week, how I longed for Bangalore street food - spicy mouth-watering delights from heaven and all I got was cabbage pakoda (after I labored over it, that's right!)
- While the boys watched Super Bowl on Sunday, I settled into a cozy corner and watched the Imran/Ranbir duo turn it up a notch at the filmfare awards. That's right I chose filmfare over Super bowl ...to my credit however, I looked up when Aguilera sang the anthem and the Black Eyed Peas did their thing at half time (so, yes I did watch parts of the Super Bowl!!)
- And I know exactly who wore what to Neelam and Samir Soni's (ofcourse, I also did a quick wiki search on Samir Soni) reception or to Shilpa Shetty's Diwali party thanks to the www and also, because I bothered to check!
Now , if this is not homesickness?
...........and it is exactly 2 yrs, 6 months and 20 days since I came back from India!
