For those of you that's just joining us, welcome to the Saturday travel post!
Today, we are off to Colorado Springs - a city situated at the base of one of America's most famous mountains, Pikes Peak.
We made the 14 hour road trip all the way from Dallas to CS for Memorial day weekend a couple of years ago. We drove for 14 hours straight which was not a wise idea in hindsight. In our defense though,we only had 3 days at our disposal and wanted to make the best of our time there and so we decided on all night drive against our better judgement. Anyway, the next morning and a few hours of sleep later, we were ready to explore what the little city had to offer and we were pleasantly surprised. In our three days of stay there we were able to gather enough memories to last a long time. Of course, we made our rounds at all the popular tourist attractions such as the Pikes Peak cog railway, Royal Gorg
e suspension bridge, Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods sandstone rock formation and the city of Manitou Springs. But what impressed me most (yet again) was the landscape of Colorado -the beautiful aspen trees, the gorgeous pine cones, the snow capped mountains, the brilliant blue skies - so different from New Mexico, Texas or for that matter any other state in this beautiful country. And in my opinion, that is what makes every vacation, every road trip worth it!
One word of caution though - if you are prone to suffer from altitude sickness (which I realized I was, only a little too late) then make sure to take some medicines along when you make that trip up Pikes Peak. At 14,110 feet it is likely you will experience some discomfort even if it is mild. But don't let that stop you, the 360 degree panoramic views at the top of Pikes Peak will more than compensate for any discomfort you may experience.
And I hear that if you are an outdoor enthusiast, there is no better place to vacation like Colorado . Our own stop there did not allow for many outdoor activities. But if you have the time and enthusiasm then the state has many options for white-water rafting, snow hiking, ice fishing and more! It was a truly fun filled vacation with lots of options for family entertainment and we came away truly recharged!
So, have a look and may be it will inspire you to plan that visit!
