Well, if you are like me (mid-30's, women of Indian origin, living in the USA) then you are bound to have at least a couple of baby shower invitations a year, if not more. And every once in a while you might even find yourself hosting one for a friend. And of course, baby showers come in all shapes, sizes, budgets and flavors and many incorporate elements from both the western and eastern cultures. There's tons of wonderful ideas on themes, favors, games, food and decor on the www and hence I shall refrain from elaborating on those here. Last year though, a group of us were putting together a shower for a friend and I wanted to make something that the mom-to-be would really cherish. While the party itself had tons of store bought goodies, I wanted her to at least have one gift with a personal stamp on it. My search for inspiration took me to back to the internet (truly a girl's best friend, move over diamonds!!) and that's where I saw these wonderful diaper cakes. Of course, I had seen one earlier too at another friend's shower but that one looked so perfect and gorgeous that I hadn't believed that one could actually craft something so beautiful at home. When I looked at all the drool-worthy diaper cakes (which possibly cost you 2 arms and half a leg, at least!) online, I knew I had found my inspiration and decided I would make one for my pregnant friend. And when I want something, God knows, I want something! A few shopping trips later, I had armed myself with enough raw material to make what I had envisioned. So, without much further ado, I present to you
- the piece de resistance (?), if I may say so myself.
.....don't ya love it? well, it makes a great gift and mom's love it too! of course, the pinks and greens were for a lovely little baby girl whose birth was being celebrated.
Have a great weekend !
