Hello my lovelies, happy Wednesday!
We've been busy. Tomorrow is multicultural night at Li'l A's school and I signed up to help out with the India station. And although this is Li'l A's third year in this school, this is the first time we are participating and as such orchid-dom is abuzz with excitement. We made give -aways for the kids over the weekend. The little black satin necklaces with orange, green and white beads was a huge hit with Li'l A and I hope the other kids will like it as much. Last night I sat down to make a display board representing India's cultural heritage and what a humbling experience it was. I mean, how you can capture the essence and richness of India's cultural diversity on a mere trifold display board? Google images had such wonderful images in every category, it was a hard choice to not use everything I would've liked to. After 6 straight hours (I know!) I was finally done and I still don't know if I have done justice. However, as a cultural synopsis, it works. After much deliberation, a salwar kameez has been picked out for the evening. Since, I will be staying back to help out with the cleaning, I had to reluctantly give up on the idea of wearing a saree.
And of course, the highlight of the evening for me will be Li'l A's dance. My baby's first official performance , well make that dance performance (he did sing on stage last spring) and I am already having the heebiejeebies! We worked with four kids including Li'l A over the course of the last three weeks and trained them to dance to the tune of three bollywood numbers formatted as a medley and tomorrow is when they get to show off what they've learnt. He enjoys dancing and has a great sense of rhythm and flexibility especially with free style dancing. Now, choreographed dancing - well that turned out to be an entirely different ball game! Remembering the steps in sequence, synchronizing steps with one another, working the audience with your charm - oh well, maybe I ought to lower my expectations a bit. The rehearsals are done but can the kids deliver? We'll have to wait and watch.
So, please keep your fingers crossed for us!
and I will be back with an update and pictures...soon!
